4 As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. 5 Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. 6 But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. 7 Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants. 8 Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop—a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown. 9 Whoever has ears, let them hear.”

10 The disciples came to him and asked, “Why do you speak to the people in parables?”

11 He replied, “Because the knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven has been given to you, but not to them. 12 Whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them. 13 This is why I speak to them in parables:

“Though seeing, they do not see;
though hearing, they do not hear or understand.
Matthew 13:4-13

31 Then Jesus’ mother and brothers arrived. Standing outside, they sent someone in to call him. 32 A crowd was sitting around him, and they told him, “Your mother and brothers are outside looking for you.” 33 “Who are my mother and my brothers?” he asked. 34 Then he looked at those seated in a circle around him and said, “Here are my mother and my brothers! 35 Whoever does God’s will is my brother and sister and
mother.”
Mark 3:31-35

PRINCIPLE #1 | YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH THE LORD WILL BE DETERMINED BY YOUR RELATIONSHIP TO HIS WORD.

Soil 1 – The Superficial Heart

As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up.
Matthew 13:4

Soil 2 – The Shallow Heart

5 Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. 6 But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root.
Matthew.13:5-6

Soil 3 – The Distracted Heart

Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants.
Matthew 13:7

Soil 4 – A Fruitful Heart

Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop—a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown.
Matthew 13:8

PRINCIPLE #2 | THE FRUIT OF YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH THE LORD IS MEASURED IN TWO MAJOR WAYS: CHRIST-LIKE CHARACTER AND KINGDOM IMPACT.

PRINCIPLE #3 | GROWTH AND FRUIT ARE SYNONYMOUS.

8 Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop — a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown. 9 Whoever has ears, let them hear.
Matthew 13:8-9

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; 23 against such things there is no law.
Galatians 5:22-23

This is why I speak to them in parables: “Though seeing, they do not see; though hearing, they do not hear or understand.”
Matthew 13:13

Be a Seed scatterer, not a soil picker.

Don’t gamble on eternity.

Fruit is an indicator but doesn’t tell the whole story.
